The wife of former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang accused permanent Columbia University gynecologist Robert Hadden, 62, of sexual assault earlier this year. Now, Mr. Hadden is facing six counts of enticing and inducing dozens of victims to travel to his medical facilities in New York and subjecting them to unlawful sexual abuse. At the Law Office of Rachel Ambats, PLLC, we want to discuss this case because we know this is not a singular event. All too often, medical professionals abuse the trust that they have established with their patients. Our firm is here to help sexual abuse victims in these cases.

Repeat offender

When Evelyn Yang, the wife of former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, accused Robert Hadden of assaulting her, there was no way of knowing just how serious those allegations were going to be. At the time of her complaint in January of 2020, Mrs. Yang told CNN that Hadden had sexually abused her in his exam room in 2012 when she was seven months pregnant. Yang says that Hadden undressed her and examined her internally and ungloved after their initial exam was already over.

Now, Hadden is facing federal charges related to the sexual abuse of multiple women. In a new indictment that was recently unsealed, it states that Hadden “sexually abused dozens of female patients, including multiple minors, under the guise of conducting purported gynecological and obstetric examinations.”

This abuse is alleged to have occurred over a period of nearly two decades. The acting US attorney in Manhattan, Audrey Strauss, says that “Hadden acted as a predator in a white coat.” Hadden Previously worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist at Columbia University and was also on the staff of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

According to Strauss, Mr. Hadden targeted victims that were young or had little experience with gynecological examinations. In one case, Hadden is alleged to have sought out and abused one girl whom he had previously delivered when she was a baby. Hadden waited until she was a teenager, then sought her out for his own gratification.

When a doctor or other type of medical professional abuses their patients’ trust in this way, they must be held accountable for their actions. It is hard for victims in these cases to come forward. Victims often feel embarrassed and simply do not know where to turn.
